Choosing A Creative Studio In Pune: 9 Questions To Ask
Nine questions worth asking on the first call. The answers tell you more than any portfolio, because a portfolio only shows the projects that went well.
A portfolio tells you what a studio can do on its best project with its best client. It does not tell you what happens in week two when a stakeholder changes their mind, and that is the part that decides whether you enjoy the project.
These are the nine questions we would ask if we were hiring a creative studio in Pune, including the ones that are uncomfortable to answer.
The Nine Questions
Who is actually designing this?
Studios pitch with senior people and deliver with junior ones. That is not automatically wrong, but you should know whose hands will be on the files before you sign.
What is in the quote, and what is a change order?
Specifically: extra sizes, language versions, a third revision round, source files, font licences. Get the boundary in writing.
How many revision rounds, and what counts as one?
Two rounds is standard. What matters is the definition. A round where three stakeholders send conflicting notes separately is really three rounds.
What happens if we miss an approval date?
Most delays on most projects are client-side. A studio with a clear, unembarrassed answer to this has run enough projects to have needed one.
Can I see a project that went wrong?
The most useful question on this list. Every studio has one. A studio that says no has either not been doing this long or is not going to be straight with you when yours goes sideways.
Who owns the designs and the source files?
The final exports are obvious. The layered source files, the templates and any custom illustration are not, and they are what you need if you ever want to edit in-house or move studios.
What do you look at after delivery?
If the answer is likes, they are measuring the thing that goes up on its own. Ask what they would check on an ad that underperformed and what they would change.
Where does AI come into your work?
A good answer is specific: which tools, for which parts, and who checks the output. A vague answer means either nobody has thought about it or nobody wants you to.
What would you talk us out of?
A studio that never pushes back is selling hours. Ask directly and listen for whether they have an opinion about your brief.
What Working With A Pune Studio Involves
Some things are specific to working here and are worth planning around rather than discovering.
- The festive calendar fills studios early. Ganeshotsav, Navratri and Diwali creatives are briefed by most brands in the same few weeks. Book that work a month ahead, not a week.
- Language versions are normal, so plan them. Marathi and Hindi versions of a campaign are common for Pune audiences. Each one is new copy and a new layout check, and it belongs in the first brief.
- In-person reviews are possible, and worth it once. A single kick-off in the same room settles more than a week of comments on a file. After that, remote reviews work fine.
- Product samples travel easily across the city. If the work starts from photos of your real product, a courier on day one beats a week of back and forth about colour.
What You Should Do Before The First Call
Three things, and together they take about an hour. They will save you a fortnight.
Write the objective down in one sentence
Not the format, the outcome. "Get first-time buyers to try the trial pack" is an objective. "Ten Instagram posts" is a format, and choosing the format before the objective is how a brand ends up with beautiful posts that nobody can point at a result from.
Find out who has to approve it
Ask inside your own organisation before you ask outside it. The number of approvers is the single best predictor of how long the project will take, and it is knowable on day one.
Decide a budget range you can actually defend
Not a number you hope to hear. A range you could take to finance. Studios quote to the brief they are given, and a brief with no budget produces a proposal aimed at the wrong scope.
How To Compare Two Quotes
Line them up on five things: the number of concepts, the deliverable count including every size, revision rounds, whether source files are included, and the delivery date. Two quotes that differ by three times almost always differ on at least two of those.

Local Or Remote?
For design work, location matters much less than it used to. Files move instantly, reviews happen on a shared link, and AI imagery is made from your product photos rather than on a set.
What a local studio still gives you is the calendar and the audience. A team in Pune knows when the city is shopping, what a festival campaign here looks like, and which language a line should be in. For a brand selling mostly in Maharashtra, that is worth more than any time zone.
For everything else, hire on the work and the answers to the nine questions. We work with teams in other cities and other countries as a matter of course, and the only real requirement is agreeing review times that suit both calendars. We cover when to keep work in-house in in-house design team or creative studio.
We are based in Pune and we work remotely with teams elsewhere. Fixed scope, fixed timelines, and a straight answer to all nine questions.
Talk To UsCommon Questions
- How do I choose a creative studio in Pune?
- Ask the nine questions above. The most revealing are the ones about a project that went wrong and what they would talk you out of, because both require a straight answer that a portfolio cannot give.
- Should I hire a local studio or a remote one?
- For most design work location matters little. A local studio earns its place on festival campaigns, regional language versions and anything that needs to read as made for the city.
- How far ahead should I book festive creatives?
- A month ahead for Ganeshotsav, Navratri and Diwali work, because most brands brief in the same few weeks and studios fill early.
